Initial Steps within Smartling You are in! Now lets get you squared away
Once your users gain access to Smartling and content starts to get translated, there are a handful of steps to go live with your localized websites:
Step 1: Validate Content and Context Quality
The most important, and labor intensive, part of the process is QAing your content.
Smartling uses a web crawler to identify and translate that material. While Smartling can translate all sorts of dynamic content, the crawler may not always identify all the content at first. Please thoroughly review the localized version of your website to ensure all areas have been translated. You are not attempting to validate the quality of the translation, simply that the content has been translated at all. You can find your temporary localized domains in Smartling by going to Settings -> Domains. You may see placeholder text (English with various accents and special characters) until the Machine Translation of the website is complete. This is normal. You are looking for plain English when it shouldn’t be there.
Step 2: Whitelist IP Addresses
The Smartling GDN uses several US-based IP addresses to route traffic from their infrastructure to your agency website. Since the GDN is a proxy solution, all traffic from localized domains will appear to come from Smartling instead of the end user. This can lead some hosts to view the traffic as a possible DDoS attack and block it. Whitelisting the IP addresses with your hosting provider will ensure localized website traffic is not disrupted.
Update the Commonwealth Branding Bar
Use the branding bar building tool to generate a new code for your website
The Smartling language selector that constituents use to navigate to localized versions of your website has been incorporated directly into the Commonwealth Branding Bar. Use the branding bar building tool to generate a new code for your website that includes the parameters for the language selector. Once you have generated the new code, simply replace the existing code on your website with it. With that, you’re live!
Step 4: Update / Add a Translation Disclaimer to your website
If you were not previously using a translation tool, or are switching tools, be sure to add or update a translation disclaimer on your website.
